What are the common umbrella fabrics?
Mar 31, 2025| The most common umbrella cloth materials are nylon, polyester, PG cloth, and plastic cloth.
1.Nylon
It's the world's first synthetic fiber. It has good comprehensive performance in mechanical properties, heat resistance, and abrasion resistance. Abrasion resistance is higher than all other fibers; when stretched to 3-6%, the elastic recovery rate can reach 100%; can withstand tens of thousands of folding. It's easy to process. The processed nylon fabric is waterproof, smooth and elastic, very wear-resistant. The texture is light and soft. But nylon fabric is prone to shrink in the wet environment.
2.Polyester
It is a synthetic fiber. It has good wrinkle resistance, good shape retention, good abrasion resistance, high strength and elastic, and hard. Because of its own good strength, it can be used to produce umbrellas after waterproof treatment, and it can also be added with sunscreen coating. Particularly, polyester oxford fabric is a combination of polyester and oxford fabric. Combining the abrasion resistance of polyester and waterproof of oxford fabric, it can be used for rain and flood control.
3.Pongee
It uses polyester and cotton yarn blended or interwoven into a fabric. Textile staple fibers or filaments are oriented or randomly braced to form a fiber network structure, and then reinforced by mechanical, thermal bonding or chemical methods. It combines the advantages of nylon and cotton yarns: softer texture, lightweight fabric and good elasticity. When used as umbrella fabric, it has a matte color, good light-blocking property, and is soft and smooth. Rainwater slides off naturally when it drips on the umbrella surface, because it is high density .
4.Plastic
It has good flexibility, high working intensity, not easy to break. But plastic canopy is not heat-resistant, not easy to degrade. Common plastic umbrellas are made of PVC , EVA, POE. PVC has excellent water and dirt resistance. EVA has good low temperature resistance. And POE has excellent toughness, higher strength.
